And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth...
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Silly Kitty
Sometime in the early afternoon today, I decided to open the blinds in the kitchen to be able to see when my husband pulled into the driveway. This is what I saw when I looked outside...
What a silly kitty! She doesn't even belong to us but she's been hanging around our yard a lot lately. She's sweet enough, although she won't come up to us. I usually find her sprawled out in the back driveway but she must have thought the trash guttering looked comfy today. hehe.

Going "No Poo"
It's been just over a week now since I stopped using shampoo and conditioner on my hair. It took a few days for my hair to stop feeling slightly greasy but since then I have never had softer and more manageable hair. I'm amazed that I'm free from the search for the perfect shampoo and conditioner combination. Now all I need is a little baking soda and vinegar.
Here's what I do...
I use 1 Tablespoon of baking soda to 1-2 Tablespoons of water and put that on my scalp. I massage that throughout my scalp, giving it time to exfoliate my scalp. Massaging the scalp also stimulates blood flow which helps feed the hair follicles. That can help prevent hair loss and speed up the recovery of damaged hair.
After a good scalp massage, I rinse well. There's no need to "wash" the rest of your hair. I have long hair, it reaches the middle of my back, and I've found that it's just not necessary to worry about "washing" that part of my hair with the baking soda.
Then I take 2 Tablespoons of vinegar to 2 Cups of water and rinse my hair with that. I pour it slowly over all of my hair from the top of my scalp through the tips of the ends. I used white vinegar at first because that's what I had in the house. I just bought some Apple Cider Vinegar (I bought the filtered) to use because it smells better and I've seen that it's recommended for the "no poo" method.
I let my hair dry naturally. The vinegar smell goes away after it dries.
Here's a picture of my "no poo" tools...
I feel so blessed that this method exists and that it works for me. This saves me money, is natural, and takes me one step further away from the reliance on big business.

Vert Paix, the Second Chapter
What this blog was.... this blog was originally my personal blog. I wrote it anonymously and very few people actually knew who I was. Those old posts have been moved and saved elsewhere.
What this blog is now... this blog is actually the direction that I wanted to take my other blog, www.convenientlysimplistic.com. The name and feel of this blog actually fits that direction better, that direction being to share my journey in developing the skills of frugality and sustainability.
I've moved beyond where Conveniently Simplistic was allowing me to go. I no longer want to fit into the modern view of frugality. I want to remove myself from the standard consumeristic lifestyle. I don't want my focus to be on how much I can save with coupons when the coupons are still helping me purchase goods from big business.
I want to focus on sustainability and the frugality that comes from that lifestyle. I want to focus on homemaking, homesteading and creating community as a stand against the modern trends of more, more, more. I see the beauty and freedom in living fully without our happiness being tied to financial position, what toys we buy, and what clothes we wear. I am moving that direction and I feel inspired to share my journey.
Any posts before this one have been transfered over from Conveniently Simplistic. I have removed some that are no longer relevant.
I look forward to sharing with you what I'm learning on this journey.
Be sure to follow my mini blog at Tumblr! I post some really great stuff there!
UPDATE: I've decided to transfer some of my old post from my old unschooling blog here, too, and I might even put back some of the posts that were here when this was an anonymous blog.
